How to Check Your Car’s Oil Level

Is your car making strange noises or not running as smoothly as it used to? One possible culprit could be low oil levels. Checking your car’s oil level is a quick and easy task that every car owner should know how to do.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through the steps of checking your oil level to help keep your car running smoothly.

What You’ll Need:

Step-by-Step Guide:

  1. Make sure the car is parked on level ground and the engine is turned off. Wait a few minutes for the oil to settle in the oil pan.
  2. Locate the dipstick, which is usually located near the engine. Consult your owner’s manual if you’re not sure where to find it.
  3. Pull the dipstick out and wipe it clean with a clean, lint-free rag.
  4. Reinsert the dipstick all the way back into the tube, then pull it out again.
  5. Check the oil level on the dipstick. There should be two marks: one for “full” and another for “add” or “low.” You’re good to go if the oil level is between these two marks. If the level is below the “add” or “low” mark, you need to add more oil.
  6. If you need to add more oil, remove the oil filler cap on the engine’s top. Using a funnel, pour in a small amount of oil at a time. Recheck the level with the dipstick until it reaches the “full” mark. Remember to use specific oil for your vehicle – Not sure on which oil your car needs? check the manual or find a recommendation here https://www.commaoil.com/products
  7. replace the dipstick and oil filler cap once you’re finished.
