Understanding Your Tyres

When ordering tyres we will need the specific tyre size, This can be found on the side wall of the tyre like the image above. Its often worth checking that all the tyres are the same size front and back.

Other markings to look out for are: Extra Load or XL & Run Flat or RF.

Check the side wall of your tyres carefully for these markings too as this will make a difference to what can be fitted to your car too make it safe.

Choosing Tyres

Choosing tyres often comes down to cost but, having a bit of insight and knowledge into what you are buying is vital. This image shows the three main factors you should consider when choosing new tyres.

1. Fuel Rating: As you would expect A rated means you will get a better MPG. Saving you money on fuel. This is because a better fuel efficient tyre requires less energy to roll, resulting in using less fuel to move your tyres.
2. Wet Grip Rating: Tyres with a high wet grip rating will stop quicker on wet roads when full brakes are applied. Wet grip is the tyres ability to stick to the road in wet conditions.
3. Noise Rating: You will notice two bits of information, the first is the dB rating or decibel. The second is how many of the 3 black semi circles are coloured in. Simply put the lower the number the quieter the road noise from the tyre.

It is worth noting that there are also lots of other things to take in to account when it comes to tyres but the above gives you a very basic understanding and summary of the ratings you will find when it comes to buying new tyres.
